Community Connections - IRHS Alumni Interview
Tanvi Manku
Polina (she/her) is an IRHS Class of 2020 alumni student and is currently at Rotman Commerce at University of Toronto, Class of 2024.
How did you decide which field/program you wanted to pursue?
I did DECA and took business courses through SHSM, and gained a large interest in business.
Why did you choose to attend your university/college?
I really wanted to be in a city and close to a variety of industries and opportunities. There's always something to do on and off campus.
What was the biggest challenge you faced transitioning from high school to university/college and how did you overcome it?
The workload was much more intense and classes are not as structured (no clear-cut homework or anything). You have to make your own time for everything and figure out a proper school life balance, as studying takes up a large chunk of time.
What did you do in high school that you feel helped prepare you for university/college?
I fast-tracked many of my Grade 12 courses and was in a lot of clubs and extracurriculars. Keeping myself busy throughout high school definitely taught me good work ethic and how to manage my time to avoid burnout.
What was your favorite memory from IRHS?
DECA Provs and Pink Day!
